Pomeranian History
The pomeranian history may not always be available when purchasing dogs from a rescue.
Poms were common in 16th century Germany whereby a number of coat colors were added to the original white. Choosing to breed companion dogs, breeders decreased the Poms’ size. The breed, a royalty favorite, was popularized in Great Britain and later introduced to the United States during the late 1800s.

Used as sled dogs in northern areas, these dogs originated from Spitz-like breeds characterized by strength and ability to survive in frigid climates. The ancestors of the Pom are believed to have been sturdy dogs with weather-resistant coat, well-developed muscles, and tiny ears.
